You've got a few seconds of something. A clip someone posted with no title, a screenshot from a group chat, a GIF that loops the best part. You want the whole video.
I built SauceMatch to answer exactly that, and I've been watching what people search with and what actually gets them to the full video. This is the short version of everything I've learned.

Why Google Lens and TinEye can't find the source of a porn video
Google Lens, Bing and TinEye look for pictures that sit on web pages. Google blurs explicit images by default, and even with that off, a frame from the middle of a video was never posted on any web page. There's nothing for them to find. Yandex used to be the trick everyone recommended, and it still only finds copies of photos posted around the web, not the video a frame came from.
What does exist is the stills every tube site makes for every video it hosts. The thumbnail, the strip you see when you scrub the timeline, the little preview that plays when you hover. SauceMatch stores those stills for more than 4 million videos (over 36 million frames as I write this) from Pornhub, XVideos, XNXX, Eporner, SpankBang, MissAV, PMVHaven, Erome, NSFW Reddit and more, and compares your frame against all of them. It never sends your file to Google or anyone else. It searches its own index.
The one thing that decides whether you find it
A site doesn't publish every frame of a video. It publishes a handful. Pornhub keeps up to 16 small stills spread over the video, XVideos a poster plus a mosaic of nine shots, SpankBang ten. So a 16 minute Pornhub video has about one stored still a minute.
A Match means your frame shows the same picture as one of those stored stills. Not a similar scene, the same picture: the points in your frame line up with the points in the stored one, even after light crops, resizing, watermarks and re-encoding. That's why a Match on SauceMatch is a real answer and not a guess. How it works shows the check.
So what really matters is how much of the video your search covers.
A single screenshot is one moment. A longer clip covers a stretch of the video and crosses the stills inside it. That's the whole game.
How to find the full video from a clip
Search the clip. Don't screenshot it first.
Drop it on reverse porn video search and your browser reads it right on your device. It looks at up to 160 spots across the clip, skips blank moments and app screens, and searches up to 48 of the best frames. Every frame gets its own shot at a Match, and the results are grouped per video.
The numbers back this up. In real searches on SauceMatch in October so far, a search with a clip came back with a verified Match about two and a half times as often as a search with pictures. GIFs did as well as clips.
- Longer is better. A 30 second clip covers half a minute of the video. A whole two hour file works too.
- Screen recordings are fine. If an app won't let you save a video, record your screen while it plays. Black bars around a vertical video get trimmed before the search.
- Use the best copy you have. Every repost loses a little detail. The least cropped, least zoomed copy wins.
How to find a porn video from a screenshot or picture
Screenshots work great when you give them a fair chance. Use porn reverse image search or the screenshot search:
- Use more than one. Up to 10 pictures go into one search. Screenshots from different minutes are different chances to land on a stored still, and a video that matches any of them is listed once.
- Keep the whole phone screenshot. The status bar, the player buttons and the comments under it are fine. SauceMatch finds the picture inside your screenshot and searches that part on its own.
- Go wide. Stored stills are small, often 320 pixels wide. A wide shot of the scene still has plenty of detail at that size. A close-up of something small doesn't.
- Saved thumbnails are the jackpot. A thumbnail you saved from a listing page is often the exact still the site stored.
How to find the source of a porn GIF
Most "GIFs" today aren't GIF files. RedGIFs and most apps serve short MP4 or WebM loops. If you can save that file, do: a real GIF has 256 colours and throws away a lot of detail. Then drop it on the porn GIF source finder.
Sped up, slowed down, boomerang or reversed doesn't matter. Every frame is compared as a still picture, and a loop has plenty of frames for one of them to land. A RedGIFs clip can even give you two answers: the Reddit post that shared it, and the full video on a tube site it was cut from.
If all you have is a link
Open it and look first. The title, the uploader's name, the tags, a watermark in a corner, the comments, the link in the poster's bio. On Reddit, someone may have answered "source?" already.
If none of that names it, save the video or screen record it, and search that. Works for clips from X, Reddit, Telegram, Discord, anything you can play on your screen.
Reading the results
- Match is proven. You get a confidence from 0 to 100 and your frame next to the stored frame it matched, so you can see it with your own eyes. Click through and you're on the full video.
- Similar looks close but didn't pass the check. It's a lead, and often a good one. For clips, SauceMatch goes back on its own and looks closer at the moments that came up Similar, and that turns some of them into Matches.
- More than one Match for the same clip usually means the video was uploaded to more than one site. They're all right answers. Pick the copy that plays best, and keep the others in case one gets taken down.
When nothing matches
- Try another moment. A different part of the clip, or screenshots from other minutes, are completely fresh chances.
- Try face search. If what you really want is more of the performer, face search finds their other videos from a clip or a few screenshots. After an empty search, SauceMatch offers it with one tap and hands your file over.
- Check back in a few days. New frames come in every day and the search index is rebuilt twice a day. Reddit posts are added about two days after they go up. A video that isn't there today can be there next week.
